Quick release towing hook
Our quick release towing hook (also known as a disc hook) is especially designed to guarantee safe operation on work boats, supply vessels, harbor vessels and tugboats. It is available with manual or remote release, and can be customized with different load capacities and materials.
Quick release towing hooks – type GSH
The Straatman type GSH quick release towing hook supports safe and efficient towing operations on a wide range of vessels. Operators use this hook on workboats, supply vessels, harbor and coastal vessels, firefighting ships, and tugboats.
Operators can operate the GSH towing hook manually using a lever or rope. Even at full safe working load, the required operating force remains below 33 pounds. In addition, the two-step release mechanism prevents accidental opening during operation. The counterbalanced disc design allows easy manual reset after release. During release, the disc rotation limits the energy impact.
Moreover, the Straatman type GSH quick release towing hook is available in multiple capacities. Safe working loads range from 15 to 100 tonnes, allowing the hook to suit various vessel types and towing applications.

Options
We supply quick-release towing hooks with a wide range of available options, including:
- Spring-loaded shock absorber
- Customized designs
- Local hydraulic or pneumatic release
- Remote-controlled release
- Load monitoring system
- Hook foundation/bracket/towing post
Testing of quick release towing hooks
We test every quick-release towing hook at our facility using a calibrated 3,500 kN hydraulic testing machine. Therefore, each hook meets defined reliability and safety requirements before delivery.
For disc-type towing hooks, we perform load testing at 200 percent of the specified safe working load. The GSH-100 model forms an exception and undergoes testing at 150 percent of its safe working load. In addition, we test the release performance of every hook at the safe working load to verify the correct and consistent operation of the release mechanism. If required, a classification authority of your choice can witness the tests.

Specials
In addition to our standard range of quick-release towing hooks, we offer the flexibility to produce and supply a wide range of options and customized designs to fit your specific needs.
Thanks to our in-house facilities, we are equipped to quickly and effectively respond to special requests, ensuring that your specific requirements are met with precision and efficiency.
In collaboration with one of our strategic partners, we have recently developed a hydraulic-powered shock absorber, specifically designed for our smaller range of quick-release towing hooks.
As shown in the image to the left, we also produced the integrated foundations for this project. These were designed to be welded directly to the deck surface of the tugboat.
Quick release towing hook – type GMH
Depending on project requirements and specific design details, our quick release mooring hook, model GMH, can often be used as a quick-release towing hook. To facilitate this dual functionality, the GMH hook is standard equipped with a device known as a rope keeper.
