Quick Release Mooring Hooks
For safe and efficient mooring operations
The Straatman Mooring Load Monitoring System (MLMS) is a cutting-edge system designed for the continuous assessment of load on quick release hooks. These hooks are fitted with a special load cell that meticulously measures the mooring loads on each individual hook.
The Straatman Mooring Load Monitoring System (MLMS) supports continuous monitoring of loads on quick release mooring hooks at jetties and terminals. Therefore, each hook is equipped with a dedicated load cell that measures the actual mooring load on every individual line in real time.
In addition, the MLMS software platform visualizes current loads, historical data, and client-defined alarm settings. Once a vessel is securely moored to the dolphin, the system immediately transmits the measured load values to the monitoring software. As a result, operators gain a clear digital overview of the load on each mooring line. When loads exceed predefined limits, the system automatically generates alerts, allowing operators to respond without delay.

The mooring loads and alarms can be viewed and recorded in various ways:
– Direct display(s) on the hook.
– A high-definition TFT color monitor is situated in the control room.
– Integrated displays in a specialized control panel, which can be paired with remote control capabilities.
Integration with a Berthing Aid System
The mooring load monitoring system can also be seamlessly integrated within a berthing aid system. This approach ensures that all pertinent data is monitored, visualized, and archived within a unified system.
The installation of the Mooring Load Monitoring System requires a high level of flexibility. Therefore, we normally integrate the system directly into new quick release mooring hook units at our manufacturing facility. Alternatively, teams can retrofit the system on-site to existing hook installations at jetties and terminals.
Our engineers designed a system that is lightweight and easy to transport. As a result, installation does not require heavy lifting equipment or extensive crane operations. This approach reduces weather dependency, limits operational downtime, and allows for faster commissioning. Consequently, terminals can return to normal operations with minimal disruption.
A yearly maintenance and inspection visit is required according to the internal guidelines of the OCIMF/SIGGTO Jetty Maintenance and Inspection Guide. One highlight of our service is the flexibility in installing or replacing the Mooring Load Monitoring System
