Capstans support safe and efficient handling of mooring lines during mooring operations. Therefore, we often supply capstans as an integrated part of our Quick Release Mooring Hook units. However, in some applications, we also deliver free-standing vertical capstans.

In those cases, operators use the capstans in combination with other deck equipment, such as bollards or basic quick release hooks. Our standard range of capstans uses high-quality electric motors. As a result, the capstans deliver reliable performance and consistent control during operation.

Capstans

A mooring capstan serves as a fixed deck structure for handling mooring lines when a vessel approaches a port or berth. Therefore, the capstan guides the mooring lines from the vessel to the mooring point in a controlled manner.

At Straatman, we supply mooring capstans as an integrated part of our Quick Release Mooring Hook units. However, we also deliver free-standing vertical capstans. In those configurations, operators combine the capstans with bollards or basic quick release hooks. As a result, we can adapt each capstan to suit different applications and vessel types.

Solar powered mooring capstans

In some locations, a conventional power supply using cables is not practical or not allowed. Therefore, Straatman developed a Solar-powered System to drive mooring Capstans. This solution provides a reliable and sustainable power supply without the need for fixed cabling.

Moreover, for use in hazardous environments such as LNG or Oil and Gas terminals, we supply explosion-proof solar panels. These panels comply with the latest ATEX and IECEx requirements. As a result, the system meets both operational and safety standards for hazardous areas.
